Climbing

Ok. Lets talk about climbing..

Hmm.. I realised a change in my climbing style recently. Usually when people give me hard routes, i would try a few times then change to a new route.

Recently, it is slightly different. I will just keep trying the route until I feel that it is impossible. Hmm.. At times, I will be a little frustrated that I can't stick a particular move too... It is frustrating. The moves are just soooooo do-able. you know what i mean? But Edwin is just unable to do it right. Hmm.... maybe i am pushing myself more these days....

Also, I am open to all span biased routes these days. I realised that there is no point complaining. Just got to deal with it and force my body to adapt to the long man route. People span for it.. I will do it dynamically and stick it.

With all the competitions coming up, I am quite psyched. Psyched to see where i stand and what i should do.

seriously, Climbing has made me a more focused person.

Friday- Saturday

Friday was spent in school. Finished lesson at 2pm. Studied till 6 at YIH study room. I like to study there.. Cos its quiet, cold and the mood is just right.

Forced youjie to knock off early and we went for dinner at Holland V. Yixiang and Zhaoxiu joined us as well. 4 of us in total. Just nice for mahjong. hAHaa. Nah.. Had NYDC's baked rice- which tasted quite bad. Then we went Sunset Tavern for a drink. The usual HTHT. Dug up some dark secrets. Youjie was supposed to tell us about his work problems.. But in the end, I was the one talking. Started bringing back the past issues when I was Captain. Whether things could have been better managed. Hmm...... oh well..... No point... At least now I know got people appreciate.

Came back to Yixiang's room and spent the night there.Slept at around 3am. Thanks Zhaoxiu for your multi-purpose mattress. It's amazing how her mattress can be a blanket and pillow at the same time. =) yEah. Wanted to stay up later for something, but I guess i was too tired....

Woke up at 830. Went to swim 10laps ordered by Jups. Wow. Edwin can swim 10laps la. It is the longest distance I have swam since army. Seriously. Climbing after swim is a total different experience. Especially when you have to do 7endurance routes. Not bad.. Quite a productive training. At least I felt that I have worked it out. OH... and not forgetting...I saw the biggest lead fall in the gym today. Good belaying I would say. But maybe it was just lucky. Hmm.. Really worried that the climber would have injured herself.. as i have seen many injuries from these kind of falls man. Hmm.. But i must agree with you that falling can be quite fun! the adrenaline Rush.. Shiok.... Just be careful yeah? Climb safe cos when we go natural, things would be very different.... =)

It was then lunch at Arts. Didn't really feel very well. Must have been the spicy baked rice and the Erdinger combination the night before. Felt like a stomach flu.. But luckily it's getting better now! I think I have the bad habit of skipping meals.... Hmm.. my parents are complaining that i am getting skinnier...

After lunch, we had a nice ride at the back of Kenneth's Lorry. He sent me all the way home! wHeee! tHanks man! Had a great time talking rubbish at the back of the lorry. hAHahA...=)

i still have alot of reports to write. Ikea ice cream...

1.58am

Just finished writing my report for Es2007s. I can't believe I actually took up this module man. Disaster. Almost every tutorial must hand up something. Oh man....... 1 S/U going to be utilised soon I guess....

Just finished talking online. wow... it feels great to really pour everything out to someone who is willing to listen from a neutral point of view. Seriously...

I am listening to emo songs as I write this post...

I have simple dreams....

To enjoy adventures with someone special.

To scale a mountain with someone special.

To go bagpacking for years with someone special.

To enjoy climbing with someone special.

To run marathon with someone special.

Basically i think it would be simply nice to do these things with someone special and push each other on in life. Motivating each other and encouraging each other.

Seriously. Don't you think it will be damn cool to go climb a mountain with your special one? To go bagpacking with her, not having a fixed destination? And imagine running a race with her. Running alongside each other... i love a simple life..... little money? no problem... no car? no problem... As long as we do things we like to do together.... Simple things like blading at night, enjoying the breeze.... hM.................................................

Like what you will say if you are reading this.... AwWwwwWwwWWw...........

Just like them... Tommy Caldwell and Beth Rodden.

Thats all for now..........

Lousy day

I'm so sick and tired
of all these things
that drag me down
I've got no where to go
they say that life
is in these hands
you give everything
you give yourself away you give
and still you choke
and find yourself running for the door

come and take me
home
lead me to your door
take me where you are
lead me to your door
at least just for a while

its some kind of life
forever days
we're in the cold
unfamiliar way
so take this fear
and fade it out
it won't make me sad
cause I get sentimental lord
in other ways
and I don't want to let me down here anymore

so come and take me home
lead me to your door
take me where you are
lead me to your door
and let me in
just let me in
and let me leave
just let me leave this world
come on now let me leave this world
at least just for a while

This blog.

The blog is kind of like a outlet for me to post my thoughts. Things that are going on in my mind and in my heart. I tend to keep things to myself.

Climbing has been ok. Been climbing alot recently but i wouldn't say it is productive. Just enjoying climbing with people. No stress, no responsible. Just pure climbing. Doesn't really matter to me if i can't climb hard routes. Just enjoy climbing.

School is starting soon. Module bidding had been very successful as of now. One more module to go and i am all set for school. Quite excited as it will be a brand new start for me. No more captaincy so at least i have more time to focus on my studies. Climbing can stand down a little bit. The big decision will come at the end of year3. To take hons or not to take hons. Hmm... i am 90% for hons. =)

My travelling dreams are always bugging me. I have so many wants. I want to go for SEP. i want to go for Summer Programme. And if i fail to get them, i will go "work and travel". For summer programme, i want to go Korea. For SEP, perhaps Canada or New Zealand. With all that said, money is stilll eeeeeee FACTOR. hmm... oh well.... just got to save up man.

really looking forward to graduation trip. Yup. i know it is still a long way to go.. But hey.... gotta really start saving if i wanna go Europe with yx man.... Looking for another person to go with us. To me, 3 is the ideal number for travelling. Not too many, not too little. Just nice. =) Hoping to have a good mix of ying and yang for our graduation trip.

i have been looking back at my past trips photos and videos. =)China and Australia have been great. I preferred China as i was like King there. Australia was budget. Yeah... I really think travelling can broaden one's horizon.

i leave you with a video of me climbing the GREAT wall. The Chinese call it 天下第一雄关.

once again...

Firstly feeling after two trips....
Hmm.... after coming back from China and Australia, i am totally into travelling now.... Somehow my mood isn't right ever since i got back. Have trouble facing reality when i am back in Singapore. The thought of having to maintain CAP is quite sickening man. hmm...

Regarding handover....

Finally, after two tiring semesters, i am handing over Captaincy. It is a tough decision but finally, we came up with the most-likely workable configuration. hmm... these hand over phase is quite irritating. Things are like not here, not there and not really motivated to work anymore.

Regarding climbing...

Don't really feel like competing anymore... totally lost the motivation to compete. As in, after competing so long, i am quite tired. Not because i am on the long dirty road of open, but simply because i have been climbing too long and i need a break? I can see why Jackie is so motivated to train hard and perform. Perhaps because he just got promoted. Congrats once again. Hmm.. and my climbing is simply screwed up now. Totally cant do moves that i used to be able to do. Cant lock, cant crank and cant what not.... Hmm.... hope things will be better after official training starts next semester

Regarding future.....

a big majority of my friends are all going for SEP next semester. hmm... i feel left out. I know if i had gotten down to plan and apply for SEP, i would have gotten it. Just that i was tied down by climbing responsibilities. Perhaps climbing really took up too much of myself. Should have thought about what i really wanted in my uni life... SOOOOOOOO... i have decided. I am goiing to apply for SEP. if i don't get it, i will apply for summer programme. For SEP, i am looking at perhaps NZ, Canada or Australia. Anywhere in fact... =). The only consideration now is cost.....

Hmm.... lots of thoughts that i need to release from within................... till the next post...... hopefully everything will be right.

2008 First post.

Long time since i blogged. I have lots of things to say and write. But hard to blog it all down... So this will be a review of what's going on since Malaysia trip... Enjoy....

In Kuala Lumpur

This is a photo taken at TIMES SQUARE in KL. Wanted to watch a movie, but timing wasn't right. So we ended up taking photos instead...

In Ipoh

After charlene and gang left from KL, the rest of the team headed up to Ipoh. The crags there are actually nice. Maybe because it is coupled with the nice weather and nice scenary. The Sun, the water and the mountain... FwaH...... nice place to just relax, watch people climb and flash a So so FUZZYLAMA. After all the cheap food and long walks in Ipoh, we headed home.

COUNTDOWN 2008

first we went to kenneth's place for a simple buffet dinner and gathering for the team, which ended up as a mahjong session. Net win $2.50. haHaha. hmm... den it was off to a more solemn occasion which i will not mention again. After which a MAD RUSH from eunos all the way to Raffles 1 QUAY in 20mins! Definitely worthed the rush as we headed out of the MRT underpass @ 2358hrs, climbed the road barricade and then the fireworks went off! quite a spectular display. Fireworks in the sky, cars horning in unison. The atmosphere was just nice.! I can say that this is by far the most memorable new year countdown tat i ever had. And i am glad i spent it with my charlene=) and of cos my best friend yixiang as well as close buddies Daniel and JSpan. =)

i wish for a smooth year ahead for myself as well as my family and my loved ones. So far 1st 5days of 2008 seems fine. Smooth CORS bidding and what not.. Just maintain it this way and i will be grateful. Next up, Boulderactive... Time to face my fear... hmmm....... i just need the motivation to push myself. i know with training, i can do it. but i need to start... Need to set an example for the juniors as well. Wake up time. WOooHOoooo....=)

1. Have been staying at home too long during the exams... kinda used to slacking at home. Going to miss my bed... and my family... haven really spend time with them after exams...

2. Charlene will be leaving half way on the 12th while i will be staying on till 17th... hmm... First time we go separate ways during a trip.... Hope it will be fine...

3. Left middle finger pulley is kinda injured... So not really in the mood for climbing...
4. Malaysia is like so different from Singapore.... HaI....

Oh well.... hopefully the trip will be fun....

slack

So tired from studying metabolism.. So much information... so many reactions and so many enzymes... Damn....

Well at least when it comes to exams, i am more or less prepared for this module...

Had a great time at Climb Asia on Saturday... Although i did not climb much, i enjoyed this session quite abit. Did mostly vertical climbing... Yes.. VERTICAL CLIMBING for me nowadays... starting to enjoy lead climbing and the huge falls that comes with it... still trying to overcome the fear of falling and jus focusing on the climb itself.

THere is this nice route in CLimb asia labelled "Mudpie 7A". Quite challenging....
The route starts off with a couple of crimps and moving on to pockets and slopers... and then the crux involving clipping in while holding on to a gaston. jiasheng has an alternate sequence from mine. haHA.. feels that mine is safer cos i prefer clipping in before making a big move.

The feeling is jus superb when you actually feel yourself progressing on this route each time you try. I am around 4 moves away from completing the route... Hopefully will be able to send it next time i visit CA.... Provided the route is still available....

After training

Bedok 85 on the eve of Deepavali

From left to right, we have meifen, Cherlyn, Zhaoxiu and Jensen.

And holding the camera, Me...

After a disappointing turnout at the gym, the easties (minus Jensen AMK MuaHahaa) decided to head for 85. We had the usual stuff.... Talk alot of cock... and we found out alot of things about Zhaoxiu. (careful careful, don't fall for...)MauaHaHAah..... yeah...

Tts it..... And i need to hit the books... going to study about last night's supper. What happens during early refed state, well fed state, early fasting state and prolong fasting.. in short... METABOLISM>........shiok...

climbing.

My blog will be focusing alot on my climbing... so bear with it...

I need a review of my climbing performance...

Firstly i am in open now... i feel training is quite slack as training is being conducted by ourselves right now... not very used to it. Prefer the idea of following a structured training set by coach Jups... Hmm... But then nvm la... i have decided to set up a training programme and take training for mondays and wednesday... Think people like Bertrand and a few others have been neglected... I was quite blessed last time when i joined the team.. cos it was more organised.. Perhpas it is the lousy management from planet...

Mock competition was a realisation for me... I need to be about to last 4 open men routes. Currently i am unable to do so. so endurance training. here i come... not too bad la my performance during mock com.. Could be betta. Jensen is damn Strong... Piangz...

Climbaprix was a good experience man! enjoyed the routes, although could not start route 2. Think i did relatively well considering how much i have been slacking..! so well done edwin. However, there are a couple of things i noticed. Route reading problems have been struck me a couple of times this sem... Need to settle that... and also commitment of the route...

So much said, at the end of the day... climbing is about having fun... so relac planet.

i am starting to enjoy being in open cat..climbing with the pros and trying creative routes. nice.....

Updates...

Jus got home from a gathering with michelle... Ages since we met up... She haven really changed. The usual golden hair girl... It is quite heartening to know that our clique's friendship haven drifted despite being in different schools and busy schedule and what not...WHERE IS MATTHEW CHAN THE HUNK!!!

hmm.. jus realised that it is quite hard being the captain... but i am enjoying the challlenge... well at least most of the time la... i love dealing with people and i am still learning... certainly hope i am doing a fine job at the moment.. Sometimes i jus dun feel that way... i take it upon myself to lead the team and contribute to the team.. at the end of the day... I am the Captain. SO much for the team... i really want a united team that goes far... A new team high this year under my term??? i certainly hope so...

Captain planet... signing off...

It is getting demoralising...

Saturday, October 6, 2007

Just when i thought i could start some serious training with my senior team...

Nothing much. Sprained ankle with slight torn of ligaments. Probably out for 2 weeks at least.

So much for new mattresses. Damn.

But at least now i know how to tape up an ankle. As you can see in the picture, the taping actually provides alot of support for the ankle. Acts like a very firm brace. cool stuff. Anyone wanna try???
